Careers Exhibition is brilliant success!
Thanks to the generous support of local businesses the Congleton Borough Careers Exhibition was a brilliant success on Bonfire Night.

Congleton Town Hall was buzzing with activity as it played host to the Congleton Borough Careers Exhibition. The main hall was filled with 35 stands that show cased the fantastic range of opportunities that the borough has to offer.

The Exhibition was very well attended; all of the borough schools were involved and offered their full support. GCSE pupils and teachers from all of the local schools were transported by Baker buses and the Cheshire County Council Transport service. This was sponsored as part of the event which gave every pupil access to this unique opportunity to help them plan for their future.

During the afternoon the event was also well used by job seekers and adults looking to change their career or return to the workplace. It was particularly useful for those who are unfortunately due to the current economic climate under threat of redundancy. A key reaction from many that attended was that they were amazed by the range of opportunities that are available locally and were delighted with the networking opportunities that this event offered.
In addition to the main Careers Exhibition workshops were available. The CV writing was very popular as were the mock interviews. Every half hour a presentation was offered on “Preparing to Move On”- to introduce the exhibition and give an overview on how to successfully apply to new opportunities and meet employers expectations.

Connexions Cheshire and Warrington had a stand in the main Exhibition and ran the CV workshops. This event was publicised to pupils and their parents through the Year 11 mail-out in October.
The Mock interviews were delivered by Siemens, Congleton Borough Council and members of the Congleton KISS Group.

This event was only possible due to the sponsorship provided by local businesses, Trusts, Training Providers and the Borough and Town Councils.
The Careers Exhibition was one of several events and initiatives organised by the Congleton Knowledge Information Sharing and Support Group. It is hosted by Congleton Borough Council’s Lifelong Learning Partnership and the group has just celebrated its second anniversary. Group members include the Chamber of Commerce, Local Schools, Connexions (Jayne Roworth), South Cheshire College, Congleton Borough Council, Hammond McNulty, Siemens and a full range of small-Medium Employers in the area. More information can be found on the group’s web site.
